In the Name of Belonging
Text on the way…..
Last week my fridge stopped working. And so I followed the cable and found a hole. I knew at once that there was an animal within my house. A simple little creature, I thought foolishly. And wouldn’t you know it, a few days later I stumbled into this rat. I met it in my kitchen. And I started to scream. But the rat just kept staring. It was not afraid of me. I carefully manoeuvred myself closer to it. Its eyes, black as a moonless night, were staring directly at me. And I truly felt the connection between us. I went over to it, placed my hand on the ground, and the rat walked onto my hand. And so I picked it up. And I like it, but it’s strange cause it feels like I’m not allowed to. But I can do it, for the first time I’m allowed to be. I can scream without making anyone unhappy. The rat is happy. It’s happy that I do it. I’ve been holding it this whole evening, and it gives me this eye contact that just says “yeah” you know. It just explains that there’s something in between us.
